Item Name: The Ambulance Corpsman
Item Number: E-4
Edition Limit: 350
Price: $79.00 |
|
|
The need for an organized
Ambulance Corps was apparent from the first battle of
the Civil War. The Medical Department was as much in need
of an increase in manpower as was the rest of the Army.
Men with knowledge of the medical arts became Hospital
Stewards and were similar to today's Warrant Officers.
Ambulance drivers and stretcher bearers were often men
desiring to serve their country, but not of a stature
or fitness level to survive the rigors of campaigning
and soldiering. |

Confederate States Navy Captain,
Rafael Semmes was the most successful Raider on the high

by the USS Kearsarge off Cherbourg France.
After a sharp battle, the "Alabama" was sunk.
Semmes later achieved the rank of Rear Admiral, but ended
the war as an Army Brigadier general in charge of an Artillary
"Battalion". Of historic interest is that his
brother, Paul Semmes, was also a Brigadier General who
recieved a fatal wound at Gettysburg. |

Item Name: Father Corby
Item Number: E-7
Edition Limit: 350
Price: $79.00 |
|
|
The Reverend William Corby
was the first Roman Catholic Priest to serve in the Army
of the Potomac. He chose to serve the Irish Brigade, but
also performed his duties throughout the Army to Catholics
and Protestants alike. Perhaps his most celebrated moment
was on the second day of Gettysburg when Father Corby
mounted a large rock and gave general absolution to the
Irish Brigade. Afterwards, the brigade took it’s
position as part of General Caldwell divisions’
attack in the Wheatfield area. Father Corby’s statue
stands behind that bloody field, very near where years
before, he stood before a kneeling brigade with its’
bright green flag |
