The Model 1857 smooth bore
field gun was developed in France and named for Emperor
Napoleon III. The ‘work horse’ of Civil War
artillery, although rifled guns could fire to greater
distances, the 12 Pounder had no peer at close range.
Robert E. Lee wrote to the Secretary of War, “The
best guns for field service, in my opinion, are the 12
Pound Napoleon guns.” |

The Parrott Model rifled gun
was first patented in 1861 by Robert Parrott and cast
at the West Point Foundary, where he was superintendent.
This gun is easily recognized by the reinforcing band
at the breech end. It was cheap and easy to manufacture,
both important factors at the on-set of the war. |

New forging methods, an ordnance
department drawing, and advanced production method at
the Phoenix Iron Company gave birth to the 3 Inch Ordnance
Rifle. "The Yankee 3 inch rifle was a dead shot at
any distance up to a mile". This was said by a Confederate
Gunner in 1864.Nearly a thousand of these deadly guns
were made by Phoenix with astonishing speed. Highly praised
if captured by the Confederacy, they could not get enough
to suit their needs and attempted to copy them, but not
as successfully manufactured as those made in theNorth.
Hotchkiss projectiles were intended for use in the 3 Inch
rifle, but Schenkle shells were also good, with Parrott
shells only used in an emergency. |

Item Name: 12 pdr Blakely
Rifle
Item Number: 1954
Edition Limit: 1500
Price: $125.00 |
|
The 12 pdr. Blakely Rifled
Cannon is the fifth addition to our highly successful
Cannon series. Imported to the south from England, this
Blakely is of the type assigned to J.E.B. Stuart's Horse
Artillery. One of these guns was with "The Gallant
Pelham" during his famous 2 gun attack on the Federal
Left Flank at Fredericksburg. While at Qui Vive, JEB Stuart's
camp near Centreville, Virginia, it was a Blakely which
was posted at HQ and sported a mascot Racoon, included
with the sculpture. Filled with amazing details, you can
actually read the manufacturer marks on the breech.

Item Name: 6 Pdr Field Gun
Item Number: 1955
Edition Limit: 1500
Price: $125.00 |
|
|
Placed in service as the model
1841 light field gun, this cannon gained fame in the Mexican
War in such units as the flying artillery. This "6
pounder" made up the bulk of the Artillery batteries
in the North and South at the outbreak of the Civil War.
The model 1841 gun followed "Stonewall" Jackson
from VMI to immortality at the Battle of Manassas in June
1861. Though quickly replaced by the "Napoleon"
and iron rifled guns, the 6 pdr. was still used in great
numbers in the Western theatre. |
